I've used 5-HTP (Jarrow brand 100mg capsules and generic powder) after reading it helped with depression. At first I started with 50mg, noticed almost no difference. Then went to 100mg, where I noticed an improvement in sleep quality and ability to fall asleep quicker, and a little bit improved mood.
I figured if 100mg was good, 200 mg would be better! Not so much. Especially because I took it on an empty stomach. NEVER take this supplement without eating or I WILL get nauseous. The nausea lasted for about 2 hours. Finally I was able to go to sleep. I remember when I first tried it on an empty stomach, I woke up in the middle of the night and threw up a couple hours after going to sleep.
Conclusion: It's not a 'drug' I would say, more like a natural 'booster', but it definitely helps me have a more positive outlook, fall asleep quicker, and sleep better.
