First of all, let me clarify that I normally HATE anticholinergic drugs. Whether it's Benadryl or Anafranil, I have uniformly terrible reactions to anticholinergics. Hence why I was hesitant to try Bentyl when it was prescribed to me for IBS.

To my surprise, Bentyl is now one of my favorite drugs for recreational use. The high isn't mind-blowingly intense but it's great for night-time jam sessions and complements other drugs well. The effects are hard to describe but I'll try.

Bentyl is strangely stimulating and makes music sound divine. I find myself getting lost in songs I normally wouldn't find that interesting. The dry mouth is awful but can be offset with Biotene mouthwash and lots of water. So far, I've successfully combined Bentyl with codeine, 2-FA and weed without any weird side effects. On the contrary, it only enhances these drugs. There is noticeable dizziness and clumsiness at higher doses which is why I don't exceed 20 mg in a sitting.

As the high starts winding down, a mild sedation sets in. For this reason I don't take it during the daytime or before going out. But it's become a nightly habit to pop a Bentyl when I'm up late with nothing to do. I look forward to it like I used to look forward to using opiates, which could be problematic I suppose.

Strangely, Bentyl regulates my bowel movements better than any laxative. I have IBS-C (constipation) and find Bentyl very effective in keeping things moving, despite its only purported use being reducing cramps. It actually lists constipation as a common side effect. Weird. Maybe I just react abnormally to it?

I laughed when I read the warning that Bentyl 'might cause drug-seeking behavior or euphoria'. Now I get it. This is a very unique drug that people either love or hate. I fall into the former category.
