DOSE:
  buccal Salvia divinorum (leaves)
    oral Salvia divinorum (tea)
BODY WEIGHT: 155 lb
Background: I am trying various dosages with Salvia divinorum made as a tea to find what the lowest psychoactive amount is.

Previously, I have taken a 0.5 oz tea (simmered 15 min., leaves discarded, plenty of closed-eye visuals) and a 1 teaspoon tea (poured and steeped, not simmered, leaves chewed and swallowed, no visual phenomena).

My primary interest is the mood altering after effect that can last for a week or more
My primary interest is the mood altering after effect that can last for a week or more
, as happened after the first experiment mentioned above.

7:30 pm : I placed one rounded tablespoon of plain, dried salvia divinorum leaves in 12 oz. of water and gently simmered on a gas stovetop for 10 minutes. Removed from heat and separated the cooked, hydrated leaves from the tea. Saved the tea to a mug for sipping later.

Waited a moment and then began to methodically chew the cooked leaves, saving the saliva in the mouth for several minutes. Swallowed leaves, juice and saliva when done. Tea is now cool enough to begin sipping slowly with much swooshing in the mouth and lingering retention of each sip for at least 30 seconds.

8:00 pm : Tea is done. Some abstract geometric shapes in ghostly pastel greens and blues in closed-eye visuals, drifting gently from one shape to another.

I am reading a novel while sitting on the edge of the bed in my bedroom when I noticed that the letters on the page have developed a three-dimensional quality. The letters hover above the page, which seems to have a depth more like glass than paper.

Just beyond the edges of the book, the patterns in the wood paneled floor appear raised, coming out of the floor, and luminous. Further attention to the floor pattern reveals that the floor has in fact disappeared, with the patterns melting and pouring like glowing maple syrup in the space that opened up where the floor used to be.

8:15 pm : Walked out to the living room ( right over the floor that had disappeared ) and told my wife ( sitting at the computer) what was going on with the trip. My voice came out really small and far away; in a few minutes the voice returned to normal volume and timbre. The house rocked to and fro like a great ship; walking required a surprising amount of concentration. No visual lines stayed straight; everything was bending back and forth. Kinesthetically, it felt like someone or something was leaning or pushing into me – on the thigh, on the back, various places.

8:30 pm: Checked the floor in the bedroom again – it was no longer moving or luminous.

9:00 pm : Ate some late supper & got ready for bed. Trip was over.

Aftereffect: Insomnia (3 hours) and disturbed sleep – frequently woke through the night. Noticed this symptom after the first salvia trip, though not as extreme. Also slight thirst – more than normal for this time of year.

Next day: Exhausted from very little sleep, but no Salvia headache.
