What substances are "K" and "G"?
Q: Hello, I'm a psychotherapist (intern) and continue to hear my clients speak of street drugs called "K" and "G". I don't know what these recreational drugs are and my clients can't seem to provide me with complete information. Can You provide me with information of these drugs or a site where I can learn more about these drugs. I found the information on MDMA very helpful but I couldn't find any information on the above mentioned druges. Your help in this matter would be grately appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help.
Sincerely,
E. Michael Alcoser, MSW
LCSW Intern

A: K is a named used to refer to ketamine. Ketamine is a dissociative anaesthetic which is used recreationally in lower doses (generally snorted) as a dance drug at clubs and at higher doses (frequently injected) as a powerful psychedelic. Ketamine became a scheduled III substance in August, 1999 prior to that it was legal to possess. Long term frequent use of Ketamine can precipitate in some people paranoid egocentric delusions. Information can be found at:

G refers to GHB. GHB is a alcohol-like substance which can be used as a sleep aid and was sold as a body-building supplement until the FDA banned its sale. It's effects are significantly like alcohol, but it can be dangerous because it is easy to overdose especially if _mixed_ with alcohol or other depressants. Occasional and careful use seems to be relatively benign but heavy long-term use may be associated with kidney and heart irrregularites as well as sleep disruption. Information can be found at :

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any further question.
