Can psychedelics cure allergies?
Q: My girl friend has allergy to cats. Any direct contact of the cat's fur to her face causes rashes to appear. She is also a great cat lover.

When she is under MDMA influence her allergy completely disappear and she can hug and kiss our cat with out any reaction. What could be the reason for this reaction?

A: There is much evidence that allergies have a very significant psychological component, and in some cases are entirely psychological. Many people have had allergies cured through hypnosis and psychedelic drugs. Andrew Weil has written rather extensively on the psychological aspect of allergies in his various books, especially "Spontaneous Healing." He has some interesting material on his web site as well (www.drweil.com).

You and your girlfriend may want to search his site for allergy information. You may also be interested to know that Dr. Weil was himself highly allergic to cats when he was younger, but he said (during a 60 minutes interview) that he once played with a cat during an LSD experience and not only did he not have an allergic reaction, but he hasn't had an allergic reaction to cats since.
