“Stimulants, Hallucinogens, and the Generation Gap”.

Abstract
This current issue of Psychiatric Annals on hallucinogens, guest edited by Mark S. Gold, MD, calls attention to the reemergence of yet another epidemic of stimulant-hallucinogen use, particularly among youth. Dr. Gold starts out the issue by reviewing the epidemiology, attitudes, and pharmacology of LSD use in the 1990s. He demonstrates the point that from one generation to the next the perception of danger of various drug use patterns waxes and wanes. While cocaine may now be seen by youth as having some dangers, it appears that hallucinogens such as LSD are not regarded as particularly dangerous in contrast to our efforts to promulgate the dangers of cocaine use.
