“Detection of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide, delta-9-Tetrahydro-Cannabinol and Related Compounds by Plasma Chromatography”.
J.Chrornatog.. 1975;105(2):345-52.
Abstract
The detection of LSD, delta-9-tetrabydrocalmabinol (THC) and other substances by plasma chromatography is described. The technique of plasma chromatography, based on the observance of positive and negative ion mobility spectra originating from ion-molecule reactions between ultra-traces of the organic compound under investigation and ions generated by the action of 60-KeV electrons emitted from a 63Ni foil, is outlined. The reaction is carried out in a flow of carrier gas (either nitrogen or air) containing a trace of water vapor and leads to The formation of stable ions of the type (H2O) H and (H2O)nNO and (in the case of air) (H2O) O2, which forum molecule-ions of the type (M) (H2O) Hetc. with the compound. In the present work referenceXpositie mobility spectra were obtained for LSD, THC, digitoxigenin, L-cystinyl-bis-L-alanine, S-(1,2-dicarboxyethyl) cysteine and hydantoin-5-propionic acid and it was shown how these could be used for the identification of these compounds in quantities between 10-7 and 10-9 g. In all cases strong MH+ ions were observed together with other ions, mainly (M)NO and (M)2H

No negative mobility spectra were exhibited by any of the compounds studied. The use of the technique for the detection of LSD in a mixture with THC was demonstrated.
