Abstract
As part of a symposium on the controversy surrounding drug addiction, psychedelic (LSD) therapy of drug addiction is discussed. Methodology of the treatment is outlined along with a historical survey of its existence and use. An interim report is then offered of a research project designed to assess the therapeutic impact of psychedelic therapy in what is thought to be its optimal form. Preliminary results indicate that the therapy as conducted and in combination with a brief period of residence in a therapeutic community offers potential for being a safe, short-term method of rehabilitating the chronic, hard - core heroin addict.
