Abstract
In 22 cases (8 psychoses, 14 neuroses) LSD was used as a psychodiagnostic and psychotherapeutic drug. The doses were progressively increased - - the increments varying from case to case - - and there was an interval of one week between sessions. Before beginning LSD a Rorschach test and an analysis under anesthesia (narcoanalysis) were carried out in each case. By analogy to the analysis under anesthesia the method is designated as "lysergoanalysis". . In a total of 68 sessions with increasing doses, the following effects were observed. . "Small doses, around 25 mcg. sometimes caused a favorable release of inhibition for the analysis but which was not as pronounced as after barbiturates. Medium doses of 50-150 mcg. activated the state of emotional disturbance. Large doses, around 300 mcg. or more revealed abundant psychopathological material and, apparently, especially in neurotics and psychopaths". . After a comparison of "lysergoanalysis" with analysis under anesthesia, the authors conclude: "LSD is the best known activator of mood. Since it also reveals affect to us it seems to be of great interest for teaching purposes. . In certain cases, it makes the restoration of contact with the patients possible, after all other methods failed. Even from this one limited viewpoint, LSD deserves the consideration of the clinician.
