“Histochemical demonstration of the inhibitory effect of d-lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and its congeners on brain cholinesterases.”.
Fed. Proc.. 1959;18:389.
Abstract
"The inhibitory effect of LSD and d-2-brom-lysergic acid diethylamide (BOL-148) on the hydrolysis of acetylthiocholine (AcThCh) in various areas of human and rabbit brain was investigated by Koelle's histochemical method. Both LSD and BOL-148 completely inhibited the hydrolysis of AcThCh in a concentration of 3.3 x 10-5M in most areas of human and rabbit brain investigated. Their effect varied to some extent with the length of the incubation time and was inversely proportional to the cholinesterase activity of the areas involved. In some areas with low cholinesterase activity LSD caused considerable inhibitioin even in 10-5M concentration. LSM [lysergic acid morpholid] and 5-hydroxytryptamine, a well known LSD antagonist, up to 10-3M concentration had no inhibitory effect on cholinesterase in histochemical preparation."
