Abstract
Inhalation of serotonin in guinea pigs caused dyspnoea, possibly followed by convulsions. . Pre-treatment with chlorpromazine (5 mg/kg i.p.) prevented all symptoms of this asthma induced by serotonin in 750f guinea pigs. Reserpine (0.2 - 2.0 mg/kg i.p.) and meprobamate (50-100 mg/kg) were completely ineffective. . LSD exerted a protective effect which was complete with doses greater than 70 mcg/kg i.p. and partial with doses as small as 10 mcg/kg. In 1 guinea pig given 400 mcg/kg LSD, the inhalation of serotonin 8 days later was completely without effect. 8 days after 100 mcg/kg LSD the effect of the inhalation of serotonin was weak.
