The field of applicatoin and the justification for the use of drugs in psychiatry are depicted. The significance of pharmacopsychiatry is outlined. Toxic psychoses (LSD intoxication) and endogenous psychoses are not identical but there is significant similarity with regard to clinical aspects and subjective symptoms. For this reason the LSD psychosis is an excellent example of endogenous psychosis for research purposes.
