Abstract
3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), an obscure methoxylated amphetamine synthesized in 1914, is known to recreational drug users and pharmacological adventurers as Ecstasy, XTC, Adam and a variety of other street names. Recently, MDMA has escaped from the hands of a few psychotherapists to the pharmacopeia of the drug culture. The regulatory zeal of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), combined with the hunger of the news media for drug abuse sensationalism, has resulted in national awareness of MDMA.
