| Mescaline is first isolated and identified by German chemist Arthur Heffter. |
| Arthur Heffter conclusively demonstrated that mescaline was the main hallucinogenic component in peyote by consuming 150 mg of mescaline hydrochloride. This was the first psychedelic experience with a purified compound.
