Erowid Monthly
We're in the final week of putting together the next issue of our print newsletter Erowid Extracts. We have a surprise bonus going out with this issue that we're excited to let folks know about once it's ready to go.

Also, a couple of quick notes, although we started taking Bitcoins three years ago, we can now accept Bitcoins for memberships using Bitpay.

We hope you enjoy our focus on Erowid columns this month!

In History...50 Years Ago And This Year
Did you know that the first research to show that psychedelics like LSD can reduce pain associated with life-threatening illnesses was published 50 years ago? The first government-approved research since 1966 to dose humans on LSD was just published in March 2014. But literature demonstrating that psilocybin, DPT, and LSD can cause long term reductions in pain, anxiety, and depression associated with terminal illnesses, has been developing since the early 1960s.

In 1964, Kast and Collins authored a paper in which 50 "gravely ill" patients were given LSD in an experimental design to compare its lasting pain-reducing effects against the powerful analgesics Demerol (meperidine) and Dilaudid (hydromorphone). They found that "LSD-25 showed a protracted and more effective action than either of the other drugs."(!)

Latest Additions
Casey William Hardison, a long time friend of Erowid and unapologetic LSD chemist who spent ten years in a British prison for that "crime", has a new column on Erowid to discuss ideas that originated during his long hours in captivity. We celebrate the one year anniversary of his new freedom by publishing the first in his essay series.
The Teafaerie's serendipitous meet up with Gramma Phoenix lands her with instructions on how to assemble and use an inter-dimensional transporter.
After three years, we again have glass LSD molecules available for membership gifts. Others available include Caffeine, DMT, Mescaline, MDMA, and Serotonin. These are fabulously crafted, check 'em out!
Crew Notes
We've been spending time going through the Experience Vaults working to improve and check the data. To transition to up-to-date design, we cleared out old hard-coded HTML from over 1,500 reports. We've standardized our set of warning notes (bad idea to drive while high!) and the crew fixed 100 reports that had never been properly categorized with the right substance. We're now working on fixing 500 reports that were triaged and edited, but then lost in limbo awaiting further verification.

After fourteen years and over 100,000 submitted reports, we decided it was time to do some tidying before we begin on the next design for the Experience Vaults.
From the Vaults
A classic Scotto essay from his Erowid column where he morbidly pokes fun at the finding that musician Rick James did not die as a result of the drugs found in his system.
