Q: I believe it was Alan Watts who once stated that there are psychedelic substances stronger than LSD-25 at the base of the spine or brain. I can't seem to find any information on this. Can you help? Not endorphines, or the opiate like substances which the body also manufactures but a true psychedelic?

A: The pineal gland, located in the center of the brain, has been speculated to produce the powerful psychedelic drug N,N-DMT and/or other potentially psychoactive tryptamines. Perhaps this is what Watts was referring to. For more thoughts on this topic, see "DMT and the Pineal: Fact or Fiction?" and "Ask Erowid #3146".
