This work is
a mix of ideas, the main theme being 'The Land'and our relation to
it,i wanted to illustrate the Gaia concept, were everything is connected
through the land,I also wanted to illustrate the MotherEarth concept,Earth
as Mother, and the relationship Between Women and Earth, this work was
done in carchol,I used black n white to convey the duality of Dark'n'light
and to give the work a more of a earthy substance, kinda like native
American sand painting.Aborignal art was also a big influance, the
idea of the Dreamtime, the ancient etc.
This work, in
concept deals with dreaming and symbolism, in a kinda of neo-lithic
state of mind, the Cave, MotherEarth, the womb, the tomb etc, the
symbols are the seed, leaf, feather, vulva.
The technique i used was using a wood burner, which was like a soldering
iron on an old photo, i burnt into it, i also used oil paint and nails
etc to scratch into it.
With this drawing
i was going for the idea of Cosmic Energy, everything being connected, then
mixing that up with surrealism, mythology and animism, and dreaming,ie
going to other worlds and other worlds coming to you.
I wanted to illustrate
the idea of Imagination, other realites, tripping into other worlds, dimensions
etc,either through drugs,dreams,or just imagination,kinda how as a
creative person can walk down the street and make up any world they
want.its about anti-reality,the power of the mind to craete universes
with universes, the unlimted power of the human mind.
This is a
etching based on the structure of a stainglass window,it was a free
form aproch to creating it,but an influanced for it would be the poem
by Allen ginsberg called "howl'
here's some
lines from that poem to go with the image.
>From Howl
by Allen Ginsberg
For Carl Solomon
I saw the best
minds of my generation destroyed by
madness, starving
hysterical naked,
dragging themselves
through the negro streets at dawn
looking for
an angry fix,
angelheaded
hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly
connection
to the starry dynamo in the machin-
ery of night,
who poverty
and tatters and hollow-eyed and high sat
up smoking
in the supernatural darkness of
cold-water
flats floating across the tops of cities
contemplating
jazz,
who bared their
brains to Heaven under the El and
saw Mohammedan
angels staggering on tene-
ment roofs
illuminated,
who passed
through universities with radiant cool eyes
hallucinating
Arkansas and Blake-light tragedy
among the scholars
of war,
beautiful dreamer
This is a charcoal
drawing that i played around with in photoshop in order to give it
a bit more expressive power, the idea in the work has to do with a
state of dreaming, ie: 'The moment of falling into a beautiful dream,
when the great spirit takes you by the soul and into the great mystery.
